Description: |
The Atlantic Aboriginal Health Research Program (AAHRP) is part of a nation-wide initiative by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research-Institute of Aboriginal Peoples' Health (CIHR-IAPH) to strengthen the capacity of Aboriginal people in health research. In the Atlantic region, the AAHRP will support the following kinds of activities: It will provide a supportive environment and resources to encourage students to pursue careers in Aboriginal health research. Financial support would be available for internships for undergraduate students, for Master's and PhD level study, and for post-doctoral and junior faculty appointments; The program will work with Aboriginal communities in the region to strengthen their capacity to collaborate in research projects and to use research results in their work; The program will provide small research grants to support health research of interest to aboriginal communities, working in collaboration with university personnel.
The purpose of providing Undergraduate Internship Awards is to encourage students to pursue careers in Aboriginal health research. These awards are provided to support the development of health research capacity among undergraduate students by providing an opportunity to work on a research project or honours thesis. |
